In my last blog I discussed one of the most glaring reasons diets don’t work – restriction. There are so many other reasons that diets are not effective, one being the obvious one: – diets are temporary by definition. They are inherently not built to last. And anything you “go on”, then “go off” again will always do more harm than good. We are all working toward permanent weight loss, right? So we need a permanent approach to match.
Another reason I encourage my clients to stay away from diets is the “one size fits all” approach they typically follow. I am always concerned when someone says, “I lost 100 pounds and if you do exactly what I did, you will too”; or “follow this plan and lose a pound a week”.
After all the years I have spent helping people lose weight, the one thing I am certain about is that everyone loses weight differently. What works for one person will not work for another. Paying attention to your body and learning what allows you to feel good and lose weight is the real goal in developing a permanent weight loss system for yourself. It’s time to ditch the diets for good.
