I have had a lot of conversations about my last blog concerning worry. It seems like a topic worth staying with for a minute or two. So, here we go.
One of my clients did not like my “worrying about weight loss” example in my last blog. She told me her “worries are big, and they are real”. I am never trying to diminish anyone’s situation, but it is the circumstances in her life that are the real thing, the worry is always self-created in the mind.
Let that sink in and let’s also think about the worry loop.
It is so important to recognize when we are in a worry loop. We can’t always change it right away, but just recognizing that we are in it and that we create it, can begin the process of taking away the false importance of worry.
Worry can be a habit loop just like any other habit. Whatever action you take that eases the worry: food, shopping, Facebook, etc. gives your brain a “reward” that reinforces that loop and makes it a stronger habit with each time.
How can we get out of these loops?
First off, know that trying to push the worry away just makes it stronger.
Sitting with the worry and recognizing it as just a vibration in your body is the only way to extinguish its power. It is not part of you, it’s just created by you.
