A lot of people are out there saying “don’t be afraid”.  I might have even said something like that in my last blog.  But today I say, “be afraid”.

Our brains are designed to look out for danger and feeling fear is part of that experience.

I don’t think it is possible to completely remove fear, nor do I think we should.  Fear of falling off a cliff is good.  Fear of eating 3-week old leftovers is good.  Some of our fear around the coronavirus is good.   Some fear produces desirable actions.  Some fear does not.  Consider what fear is producing in your life each day.

Don’t always try to eliminate fear.  Running away from fear can cause us to want to eat and drink things that we normally wouldn’t.  This urge for snacks or comfort food comes from our unnecessary desire to rid ourselves of the fear.

What if fear is not something to fear? What if fear is part of being a human and doesn’t mean something is wrong with you?  Be afraid sometimes.

Let’s confidently live by faith, allowing constructive fear when it arises.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV). For we live by faith, not by sight.
